What this code means

The dishwasher believes too much water has entered the tub and may run the drain pump to limit overflow. A sticking inlet valve, water-pressure problem, flow-sensing fault or control issue can cause FE.

Most likely causes

  • The inlet valve is mechanically stuck open or contaminated with grit
  • House water pressure is outside the appliance operating range
  • The flow meter is not measuring incoming water correctly
  • The main control is energizing the inlet valve when it should be closed

Safe checks for the owner

  1. Turn off the dishwasher, close its water supply and switch off the breaker.
  2. If water continues entering with power off, keep the supply valve closed and arrange service.
  3. Check for unusually high or low home water pressure through a plumber when suspected.

Estimated U.S. repair cost

$220–$480, depending on model, access, parts availability and local labor.
