Age decoding: a pattern match with limits
The age tool selects a stored serial-number rule for the chosen brand and applies it to the number entered. Where a date code repeats, the result may include older alternative years. The newest plausible year is not proof that a machine was made then: compare it with a printed manufacture date, a purchase record or the manufacturer’s confirmation.
For supported Kenmore prefixes, the model number identifies the underlying manufacturer so its serial format can be used. The current decoder does not check every other brand’s model against a catalog of production dates. Adding a model therefore does not guarantee that an ambiguous decade will be resolved.
Confidence describes the rule’s output, not a verified factory record. An unsupported format returns an explanation instead of a guessed date. The age finder includes worked examples and support limitations; the label guide helps locate the original rating plate.
Error codes: condition, cause and applicability
The lookup matches a published code or recorded alias within a brand and appliance type. The meaning describes the detected condition. The listed causes are possibilities, and they are not evidence that a particular part has failed on your appliance. Read any applicability notes and compare them with the complete model and its manual before using the guide.
Coverage varies by model family. The public error-code API currently accepts a model field but does not use it to filter results. A match must not be described as a model-specific diagnosis. Manufacturer instructions take precedence where the same code has different meanings across models.
Repair costs: stored planning ranges
The estimator reads a stored minimum and maximum for an appliance, repair category and region label. The current website uses the U.S. planning dataset labeled US-avg. This label does not establish that the figures are a measured national average. There is no live parts-price feed, ZIP-code adjustment or published statistical sample behind the current tool.
The cost table and results display the pricing record’s data date. Reopening the page does not make an older range current. Parts, labor and diagnostic-fee fields may be absent; that does not mean those costs are zero or included. Confirm the complete scope, taxes, visit-fee policy and warranty in a written estimate from the provider.
ApplianceWorth’s current records do not provide an individual source citation for every price range. These estimates can help frame a repair-or-replace conversation, but they cannot establish a fair price for a specific job or replace diagnosis.
Sources, dates and corrections
When a page cites an external reference, use its link to check the model coverage and wording. A generic reference to service documentation or field experience is not a model-specific source citation. Record-update dates describe database updates; they must not be treated as proof of a new technical review. Publishing or rebuilding the site is also not a technical review.
