What this code means
On standard front-load washers, AE generally means that water or another condition has activated the base flood-safety circuit. On some heat-pump washer/dryer combinations the same letters can have a different compressor-related meaning, so the model matters.
Most likely causes
- An internal hose, tub, dispenser or drain connection is leaking
- Water, debris or an insect is affecting the base float or safety switch
- The flood-switch harness is open, damaged or disconnected
- On applicable heat-pump combo models, a compressor or refrigeration-system fault
