LG Washer LE — Locked motor / rotor error

What this code means

The control is not detecting normal drum rotation. LE can appear after an overload, but persistent errors can involve the rotor, stator, hall sensor, wiring, clutch components or control board.

Applicability

Applies to LG front-load and some top-load washers displaying LE. Confirm the complete model number, since the likely cause differs between direct-drive and belt-drive LG platforms.

Symptoms

• The washer pauses or stops during the wash or spin phase
• Sometimes an audible click or brief motor hum occurs but the drum does not rotate
• The load may feel heavier or more tightly packed than usual

Most likely causes

• The drum is overloaded or an item is mechanically binding the tub
• Loose rotor hardware, cracked magnets or a damaged clutch/coupler on applicable models
• A failed hall sensor or damaged motor wiring harness
• A stator, motor-control or main-control fault

Diagnostic logic

If the drum turns freely by hand when the washer is unplugged, suspicion shifts toward the Hall sensor or its wiring rather than a mechanical jam. If the drum resists turning by hand, an overloaded or tangled load, or a bearing/suspension fault, is more likely than an electrical fault.

Safe checks for the owner

1. Turn the washer off, unplug it for about ten minutes and remove excess laundry.
2. With power disconnected, rotate the drum by hand. Stop if it binds, scrapes or requires unusual force.
3. Check for an item caught between accessible drum or tub areas without disassembling electrical parts.
