LG Washer OE — Drain / outlet error

What this code means

The washer did not confirm that water drained within the expected time. OE identifies a drainage problem, but it does not by itself prove that the drain pump has failed.

Applicability

Applies to LG front-load washers displaying OE. Some LG models show a related condition as FE on older control panels; confirm using your complete model number since not every LG washer generation uses OE for the same condition.

Symptoms

• The washer stops mid-cycle, often with standing water still visible in the drum
• You may hear the drain pump running (a steady hum) without water actually leaving
• Or you may hear nothing at all from the pump when the cycle should be draining

Most likely causes

• A clogged pump filter or debris inside the pump housing
• A kinked, crushed, frozen or internally blocked drain hose
• A drain hose installed too high, too deep in the standpipe or without an air gap
• A damaged drain pump, restricted pressure-sensing path, wiring fault or control problem

Diagnostic logic

A pump that hums but moves little or no water usually points to a clogged filter or a blocked impeller — a mechanical restriction, not an electrical fault. A pump that stays completely silent when the cycle should be draining shifts suspicion to the pump motor winding, its wiring harness or the control-board output — an electrical fault. This distinction is the single most useful diagnostic step before calling for service.

Safe checks for the owner

1. Stop the cycle, unplug the washer and prepare towels before opening any drain access.
2. Use the emergency drain hose when the model has one, then clean the pump filter and inspect the pump cavity for coins, lint and small clothing items.
3. Check the external drain hose for a kink, freeze-up or obstruction. Confirm that it is not sealed airtight into the standpipe.
